(a)
A medal, or a bar, emblem, or insignia in lieu thereof, that is lost, destroyed, or rendered unfit for use without fault or neglect on the part of the person to whom it was awarded by the Coast Guard is replaced without charge by the Coast Guard as authorized in 14 U.S.C. 501.
(b)
A medal, a bar, emblem or insignia in lieu thereof, that is lost, destroyed, or rendered unfit for use due to the fault or neglect of the person to whom it was awarded, is replaced after the Coast Guard is reimbursed for its cost.
